Well, we are talking about a movie wherein a group of people board a spaceship to fly out to the sun to give it a kick-start. So, I think it's reasonable to expect a fair amount of mush science as well. But they had scientific consultants on set to discuss theories and actual science and tried to stay as close as they could to plausibility.
I can't imagine anyone would think that everything in this kind of movie would be scientifically sound.

A group of my friends and I (a mixed bunch of solar physicists, cosmologists and physicists) went to see Sunshine and cringed at some of the "science" - I wouldn't exactly call it accurate!

I love Sunshine. I've been meaning to write about it for some time now. The crazy thing about it is that Danny Boyle directed it. Yes, the same director who brought us Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, and some little feel good Best Picture winner called Slumdog Millionaire. This was a low budget genre movie with major pedigree even before he won the Oscar for Best Director. It's simply brilliant (with some great scares as well). I implore all of you to rent it if you haven't seen it.
And Resident Evil has one of the coolest endings EVER! I won't spoil it, but the last shot just blew me away and still excites me. RE 2 wasn't great, but still fun at times. I really dug RE3 though. Milla Jovovich makes a great action hero.
Awesome list. Thanks Kyle.

I'm so glad to find another fan of The Signal. That film endured a bit of a critical bashing in the reviews I read, but when I saw it I really enjoyed it. I've watched it a couple times since then and it remains one of my favorites. And Resident Evil is the surprise for me - I thought for sure I'd be walking out (zombies freak me out badly) but it was too good to leave.
On the whole, I want people to find some of these movies and enjoy them. Horror/Thriller and Sci Fi can make for a great fit on the screen and I just want to share the good times!

Even better than part one (outside of Invasion of the Body Snatchers). I think 4 of these 5 are absolutely brilliant, with The Thing and Resident Evil both blowing me away in different ways, and I think The Signal is a wickedly smart moving film.

"Legend" would be considered horror/sci-fi wouldn't it?. Every movie on your list I want to see but haven't had the money to buy. I would love to see Resident Evil.
