Titan Terminator Tie-Ins

zahn-terminator.jpg“The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.”
I bet Skynet disagrees with that litany!
May 21, 2009 will see the release of Terminator: Salvation, the fourth movie in the popular Terminator series and the hope of Warner Bros. to revitalize the franchise after the disappointing Terminator: Rise of the Machines. The early trailers have shown a dark movie, set in 2018, where mankind has fallen to the machines and its only chance of survival is in the mind and heart of one man—John Connor. The movie appears to weave an interesting story amidst more intriguing human dilemmas: What does it mean to be human? How much can we lose before we lose our humanity entirely? Can a machine ever be human?
The movie looks great! Or least to me it does…
But there are several book tie-ins, being created by Titan Books, that I think might be great as well, a means to delve even more into those darker aspects of ourselves and the story itself.
Timothy Zahn, of Star Wars fame, has written Terminator Salvation: From the Ashes, the authorized prequel to Terminator: Salvation. Anyone who has read Zahn’s work knows he is a fantastic writer, loves science fiction, and he probably jumped at the chance to work in this all-important series. The prequel will be published in mass market paperback on March 17, 2009!
foster-terminator.jpgAlan Dean Foster, another great writer who has dozens and dozens of novels, novelizations and short stories, has written the novelization to Terminator: Salvation. As with most novelizations, Foster will most likely be allowed to delve into elements of the story the movie simply cannot cover, truly getting into the mind of John Connor and friends. The mass market paperbook will be released on April 28, 2009, almost a month before the movie hits theaters!
Titan Books has also put together two other Terminator tie-ins: Terminator Salvation: The Movie Companion, which chronicles the making of the film with interviews and commentary from the cast and crew, and The Art of Terminator Salvation, another book release that reveals the movie’s intricate creative design, production art and the computer-generated imagery that create the breathtaking vision of the Terminator universe’s violent, dystopian future.
So, for all of you Terminator fans out there, it is a good time to be alive!

Cool Bookcovers for the Tie-Ins. I’m interested in how this movie is going to be without Arnold Schwarzennegger. Isn’t Christian Bale playing John Connor?
I’ll probably see it when it comes on On-Demand, money is reserved for Star Trek and Transformers II and a few others I want to see.
It looks like a cool movie and perhaps it will be good without Arnie. I’m reserving judgment. I love the first three movies though, especially one and two.
I think the Alan Dean Foster Cover looks more sinister too.
    Neat article!

Right you are! And I’m hoping that he brings the same kind of weight to the role that he has been able to bring to Batman (though I know the writers had something to do with reviving that franchise as well).
Also in the film is Moon Bloodgood, who quite possibly has the best name in Hollywood at the moment!
All kidding aside, to finally see the adult John Conner at war with the Terminators is going to be a lot of fun.
    (I hope I hope I hope)

i wonder is Kate, Conner’s wife in the next one? She saved his butt in the last movie by reprogramming a model of the original arnie terminator and sending it back in time to save Conner from the T-X?
She was a cool character for a Veterinarian.

Yes, Kate Connor is in the new movie. She is being played by Bryce Dallas Howard, I do believe. :)

I saw the third installment of Terminator on on AMC today. I hope Bryce is as good as Claire Danes.
