DISGAEA 2: CURSED MEMORIES (Makai Senki Disgaea 2, “Demon World War Record Disgaea 2″) (魔界戦記ディスガイア2) • Hekaton • Broccoli Books (2007) • Media Works (Dengeki Maoh, 2005-2008) • 2 volumes, canceled (4 volumes in Japan) • Video Game Fantasy Action Comedy • 13+ (cartoon violence, partial nudity)
Adaptation of the PlayStation 2 game of the same name. Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories returns to the Netherworld where Overlord Laharl (the main dude from the first game and manga) continues to be up to no good, his vassal Etna still disobeys him, and the angel Flonne has become a fallen angel. Laharl’s overbearing rule of his demon-filled kingdom is so horrendous that his loyal vassal, the loli-moe-licious Etna, quits (after fighting over food) and sets off to become an Overlord herself. Meanwhile, the evil Overlord Zenon has transformed all the humans in his kingdom into demons, except for Adell (the main character of the sequel), who sets out to kill Zenon and end the curse. But thanks to a botched summoning ritual, Adell must travel along with Rozalin, Zenon’s sheltered daughter. The majority of the manga follows Adell’s story, peppered with foolishness and hijinks. From mischievous souls who look like penguins to a cool-acting has-been hero, the varied cast is fun and sure to make you chuckle. Cruising on the original character designs and fleshing out the romantic comedy adventures of the game characters, Disgaea 2 is ridiculous and we like it that way. (Review by Dale Readings)

Today’s review is by my friend Dale Readings, a huge manga/game expert who I asked to do several video game reviews for the original “Manga: The Complete Guide.” Thanks for doing a followup to your original review of Disgaea, Dale!
And in other news… today’s winner is Anna F. of California! Congratulations, Anna! Prepare to receive the gift of manga!

  1. Anna Frohling says:

    Oh crap, I won! :D
I just wanted to say though, that I don’t live in California, I live at an APO, AP address. (an American AF Base in Japan). It counts as US shipping so I hope that’s OK…
