My first novel, Devil's Cape, started life with the name The City of St. Diable. In fact, in the original draft, St. Diable wasn't just the name of the masked pirate who founded the city; it was the name of the city itself. Wizards of the Coast liked the book, but hated the title, and we kicked around several different ideas. I eventually came up with Devil's Bay, which had the sort of pirate flavor I liked, and Wizards approved it, but then the name Devil's Cape hit me and hooked me. It was a little less geographically accurate, but the word Cape played both with the idea of a pirate city and with the capes that superheroes wore. Some really interesting stories here.
