Being Jewish, I know many things to be true. For one, my grandmother will only ever talk about food, being Jewish, and her medical problems, in that order. I will always get that, “Do you speak Jewish?” question from gentiles who are not in-the-know. Woody Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, and Mel Brooks will always appeal to me at least for the sake of cultural familiarity. And, lastly, every year Hanukkah will be overshadowed by Christmas.
Now that last one is totally understandable (I mean, we’re only 0.2% of the world population) but it is still leaves us a little sore. Which is why I am overjoyed that someone has taken the time to put together a list of Jewish-inspired Science Fiction and Fantasy titles! Steven Silver, over on www.sfsite.com put together a thorough list of titles that I would be proud of giving (and receiving) this Hanukkah. It is enough to make my grandmother plotz!
So check it out and pick up a couple of books for the mensch in your life! You’ll be doing a mitzvah…
