It looks like Ice & Fire is coming!
No, not A Dance With Dragons. Not yet at least…
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo thinks the early progress on the A Game of Thrones pilot looks “fantastic” and there is a very strong possibility that he will order a full season of the George R. R. Martin epic, A Song of Ice & Fire!
“Everything looks fantastic,” said Lombardo, who’s become a fan of the George R.R. Martin books upon which the project is based. “The director got great performances. Unlike a lot of projects like this, everything was shot on location. It has such a rich texture that it looks more expensive than it actually was.”
I don’t know about you, but that sounds quite promising!
I do find it amusing that, in the article, Lombardo is quoted as saying, “You forget it’s fantasy while you’re watching it, and that’s what I love about it.”
Mr. Lombardo, there are a great many books in fantasy that that quote can be applied to. Although George’s work is certainly more adult oriented than most.
At any rate, if all goes well, HBO could put this series on the air in “March or April 2011.”
I’m sure George is thrilled by this.
As one of his fans, I am too!
We should know by the end of March 2010 if HBO is going to greenlight the series into a full season of production.
What do you think? Who are you most looking forward to seeing come to life? For me it is Eddard Stark, Jon Snow, Arya, and Tyrion, in that order.
And of course the dragons…

Hey Allan,
If you look at the code, that’s the very same URL I used.

I’m looking forward to seeing Jon Snow and Tyrion come to life. Jon is awesome and Tyrion is just a really interesting character. The imp is my favorite next to Snow incidentally.
I love the casting for some of the characters. Sean Bean should do a nice job as Eddard, and Peter Dinklage should be a great Tyrion. I’m especially excited about seeing the cinematics of the landscapes, cities and strongholds. I can’t wait to see what they do with places like The Wall, The Eyrie and Pyke.
