LA VIE EN ROSE (???????????) • Sakura Yamada • DMP (2007) • Tokyo Mangasha (2005) • 1 volume • Yaoi • 18+ (nudity, sex)
A series of shorts tangentially connected by a bar, this volume hits all the tired yaoi clichés without offering anything to make them interesting. What little sex there is involves uninspired quickies in the men’s bathroom between strangers, and there is little to no emotional connection between anyone. The characters are flat and inconsistent, and so is the art. (Review by Hannah Santiago)

Today’s review is by the great Hannah Santiago… and today’s winner is Lena S. of California! We also have a photo from Sheli H., one of the previous 365 Days Winners:

Great drawing, Sheli! I hope you liked the manga as much as it looks like you did! In other news, this morning I’m reading a great editorial by Jake Forbes, former Tokyopop editor and author of “Return to Labyrinth.” The title is Dear Manga, You Are Broken, and you should check it out.

Out of curiosity, why has there been nothing but Yaoi and/or Adult reviews for the past week or so? Have you run out of general manga reviews, or something? On an unrelated subject, will you ever review Rumiko Takahashi’s “Rin-Ne?”

Your guess is right on — I’m getting to the end of the reviews originally slated to run in “Manga: The Complete Guide 2″, so I’ve been posting mostly yaoi and adult reviews lately. But I’m still reading everything, of course, including Rin-ne, which I’ll hopefully review before too long. There may be some changes to the format of 365 Days of Manga; more news on that in a few days!
