Dan Simmons always puts on a great signing event.
He is the author of such amazing books as Hyperion, The Terror, Drood, and many others. He also stopped by the University Bookstore in Seattle WA on March 5, 2010 in support of his new book, Black Hills.
I enjoy attending events by Dan. He is extremely intelligent, well-spoken, and is a wealth of interesting tidbits and insight. He is always gracious and approachable. It is easy to see how much he enjoys writing, but even more so how much he enjoys researching the various projects he writes about.
It is undoubtedly the reason I learn so much from reading his books.
As always, Dan was in high form on Friday.
Here is the summary for his new novel, Black Hills:

In August of 1936, a dynamite worker on the massive Mount Rushmore project, Paha Sapa plans to silence his ghost forever and reclaim his people’s legacy-on the very day FDR comes to Mount Rushmore to dedicate the Jefferson face.
Dan read from Chapter I and Chapter II of Black Hills, as well as spoke about his desire to stop publishing for a while, how Black Hills came to be, what he is currently reading and researching, and what he has planned in the future. He also answered fan questions.
