365 Days of Manga, Day 195: His Arrogance

A forgettable yaoi set in a fantasy version of the modeling industry that seems to consist entirely of hot guys shooting each other poisonous looks over break-room sofas. Ryou, the teenage brother of top male model Tomohito, works at the family modeling agency. One of the other models, Kazuto, moves in on Ryou like a Sherman tank. Their courtship is uncomfortably coercive: Kazuto forces himself on Ryou while Ryou reflects, “He doesn’t care what I think. He wants to go all the way.” In between, there’s a lot of dull office conversation and gossip; who, oh, who will get the Jets Jeans account? The sex scenes are well done and the racy details surprisingly plausible. Unfortunately, the art is weak, the plot is extremely thin, and by the end of the volume Kanzaki is falling back on the standard beach-trip and Valentine’s chocolate plots all manga artists use when they run out of ideas.
