This volume contains five uninspired shorts. The titular story is about scruffy Onizuka, the eponymous Cute Beast, who gets a makeover that fails to cure him of his nerdy ways or even really get him laid. The rest of the stories plod along in a similar lackluster vein, and the utterly ordinary art does nothing to liven things up. Only the final story (”I’m Serious Because it’s Love”) has any kind of sex, and it’s the “creepy teacher bending his student over the desk” kind. (Review by Hannah Santiago)
