Things have been going great lately. Your boss isn’t being such a pain in the ass anymore. Your favorite sports team is about to make a run for the playoffs and just the other night you hooked up with the hottest person you’ve ever seen, let alone talked to.
On top of all that you’ve just arranged for the esteemed scientist Dr. Henry Pym to speak at your company function this afternoon. Inviting a founding member of the Avengers to speak to should be a surefire way to get ahead and gets your company some positive press. A smile grows across your face as you realize that by this time next week you’ll probably be made vice president.
You set your cup of coffee on your desk and begin to check emails when suddenly you hear people screaming. There’s some sort of commotion going on outside. You look outside your window to find people crowded in the street with their arms pointing towards the sky but you can’t tell what it is they’re looking at.
You exit the building and gaze upwards to find several large space ships hovering in the sky. Suddenly a holographic transmission appears out of thin air and you recognize the Avenger Spider-Woman speaking about how much “he loves you” and that things will be okay. Confused, you continue to listen and watch in horror as Spider-Woman reveals herself to be a Skrull, a member of an alien warrior race intent on enslaving the Earth.
It turns out that for the last several years Skrulls have been secretly infiltrating the planet, replacing humans with Skrull copies. Spider-Woman was one of apparently many super powered beings that were also replaced. A moment later, Dr Henry Pym joins Spider-Woman and begins to lay out the conditions of Earth’s surrender. The remaining heroes aren’t going to take this sitting down and they engage the Skrull army. A fierce battle rages across the country as Skrull imposters get exposed for the alien menace they are, but the heroes too suffer heavy casualties and begin to fracture. An unlikely ally arrives in the form of disgraced businessman and one time super villain, Norman Osborn. Osborn has gathered some of the most ruthless super villains on the planet to come together for a common cause: the eradication of the enemy. He has a plan. A plan that will rid the planet of the Skrull menace once and for all.
How do you survive?
1. Embrace change. Aide the Skrull warriors in their revenge, guaranteeing you royal status when they take over the world next time.
2. Norman Osborn? The Green Goblin? No friggin way. You’re going to All Access your way out of the Marvel Universe and into the DC Universe. Newly elected President Lex Luthor promises to protect people from alien menaces.
3. That person you were with the other night? Skrull. You can’t think of anything else right now.
4. Strip down to your underpants, tie a towel around your neck as a cape and shout, ‘Avengers Assemble’. You’re going to fit the good fight and then kick back a couple tall ones with Tony Stark.
