I lead a lucky life.
Last week I met author Guy Gavriel Kay for the second time. He was in Seattle on tour supporting his newest book, Under Heaven, a novel that is getting rave reviews from every critical source imaginable.
I am happy about this. Guy is one of the nicest and most intelligent authors I have had the pleasure of meeting. After he signed copies of Under Heaven for customers of The Signed Page, we sat out on a deck at the next-door restaurant and had coffee. At one point, Guy asked me if I enjoyed the work I do for The Signed Page, Random House, Terry Brooks, and Naomi Novik.
“I don’t work, Guy,” I said with a smile. “I get paid doing hobbies I love.”
Guy just smiled, understanding.
The best part about my hobbies though is having access to writers like Guy, who are thoughtful in life just as they are while at the keyboard. I had the chance to sit down with him for more than an hour and pick his brain, asking him all sorts of different questions about the craft of writing, his own work, how internet networking is changing the book industry—and not always for the good—and what he has planned for the future.
Well, you have that chance too on June 2nd, albeit electronically with a Suvudu chat! Enter your email address below to be reminded of the forthcoming chat with Guy Gavriel Kay!
