Sweet Surrender in Adapting Never Let Me Go for the Big Screen

If he were here, one would have to ask the question of Booker Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day, The Unconsoled, and more), “What’s a nice high-brow literature author like yourself doing here?” Now, I don’t know exactly how he would respond but my answer is one word long: clones. Yup, clones. Ishiguro and director Mark Romanek have made no secret of the “reveal” that defines this beautiful, hauting tale of human ingenuity run…well, away…

We have a wonderful interview with director Romanek on how he came to adapt the book to the screen. A sample:

“I was excited, but also kind of daunted because it’s such an original and delicate piece. It wasn’t such a logistically difficult piece but the degree of difficulty was very high to pull it off.”

and…

“Kazuo visited the set several times and he was always available to us if we had questions. The first time we showed it to him was really kind of a white-knuckle experience and he really was very pleased and had tears in his eyes when it was done so we were very relieved. He seemed to love the film, not just like it.”
