What a cover! I love Jae Lee’s work but this image really does it for me!
Wolverine has been on a rampage as of late, except it’s not Logan. While Logan’s soul has been sent to Hell, his body on Earth has been taken over with demonic control, laying waste to everyone and anything in its path.
Who is the only person on the planet who even stands a chance of stopping the adamantium-laced berserker?
He who controls metal: Magneto.
This art by Jae Lee does several things for me. First the purple cape is draped over Erik Lehnsherr like a priest’s robe, giving him almost Godly authority over the body of Wolverine. Love it. Magneto is using his power to levitate Wolverine’s body but he looks about to perform an exorcism, one hand in command of the corporeal form and the other calling on the power of the heavens. Love it. The X-Men looking on, knowing one of their worst enemies is one of their only hopes. Love it.
This image reminds me why I got into comic books in the first place. Back in the 1990’s there was a story arc titled Fatal Attractions, where Magneto, fed up with Wolverine being the best at what he does, removed the adamantium from Logan’s body right through his pores.
The artwork done by Jae here hearkens back to those early days for me.
Love it!
