Hmmmm...so I guess all the complaints over the years of 'ethnic' characters like Asians and American natives and Hispanics being played by Caucasian actors was equally misguided? Or should we take it for granted that all movie roles are now up for grabs since casting directors and movie audiences are supposed to pay no attention to the ethnicity of movie roles or the actors playing them? If so, what were all the complaints about the casting of The Last Airbender in regards to?

Political correctness of this kind is simply reverse racism. Idris Elba is indeed a great actor and will probably do just fine as Heimdall. Are we then to look forward to colour-blind casting of the remake of Zulu or The Color Purple, and a blackface version of Othello? Hey, Laurence Olivier did a great job back in '65...and Oscar nomination and all. How can anybody be offended when the role of a Nordic god can go to a non-caucasian?

how can you not mention the wire? it's only the single finest work of fiction ever made (well, that might be a bit much... but it's often been called the best tv show of all time by respectable critics). idris elba plays an american drug kingpin named stringer bell and makes him to be one of the most sympathetic, complex, and chilling characters in the series (which is full of characters like that).

if they wanted idris elba to play mary jane watson in the upcoming spiderman movie, i'd assume he'd be convincing in the role.

It's just a movie - a really awesome movie, if the trailers can be trusted, but nevertheless, it's just a movie. Get over it, people.

The fact that you have to write this article at all is beyond ridiculous. Can't people just see that Hollywood will do what they believe is best ( and in this instant I agree wholeheartedly). Don't the Council of concerned Citizens have better things to do? With all that is wrong with the world boycotting a movie because you don't like the actor seems pretty insignificant. People are dying of thirst, hunger, war, and a whole lot more and all they want us to do is boycott a movie over actor choice. no wonder this world is messed up.
