Mondays suck, but ours just got a little bit better – no, scratch that – a lot better after reading this amazing profile of Guilllermo del Toro in the latest issue of The New Yorker. Reporter Daniel Zalewski got to hang out with the great man for a few weeks, visiting his home – an Addams family-esque mansion full of monstrous oddities called “Bleak House” – and even rifling through his workshop for exclusive peaks at concept art for The Hobbit, Frankestein and, yes, At the Mountains of Madness. If you weren’t excited before at the prospect of del Toro’s take on Lovecraft’s classic, then you will be by the end of this story. I’ve never seen this level of unprecedented access to a director’s works, past, present and future. It’s a fanboy’s dream. And why not? Guillermo del Toro is the ultimate fanboy made good. Fire up a pot of coffee, close your email inbox and settle in for a long, detailed look into the life of one of the world’s greatest living horror and fantasy directors.
