First Look: Captain America

The first Captain America trailer has hit the net, and finally we’re getting a good look at star Chris Evans, first as the pre-super soldier formula “98 pound weakling” Steve Rogers, and then as the walking wall of mighty man muscle he becomes, Captain America.

In case you’re wondering, the studio used CGI to transform the normally hale and hardy Evans into a stringbean. Evans didn’t do any kind of Christian Bale body transformation magic for the role. While nobody should expect that kind of thing from an actor – I don’t think that most human beings are capable of that kind of it, anyway – I have to say that the CGI used here seems a little…off. I can’t quite put my finger on it, and it’s a bit disturbing. I think it’s the “uncanny valley” effect at work. Anybody else get that?

Weird CGI aside, I love the look of the movie. the vintage costumes look great and it’s far more shadowy and noir than I expected. And check out the Red Skull! He looks awesome.

I’m on the fence as to whether I’ll go to see this, but I’m leaning toward waiting until it – along with Thor – are out on video. What about you?
