Help NPR Choose the Top 100 SF/F Novels Ever Written!

National Public Radio wants to create a top 100 list of science fiction and fantasy novels, and needs your help! They want your top five picks,  but there are some restrictions: your picks cannot be YA fiction, horror or paranormal romance, or entire series that aren’t written by the same author. That being said, drop by and let them know your five favorite titles.

The nominees from this initial round of voting will go on to compete for a place on the final list: The Top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy Novels Ever written.

My own list looks something like this:

  1. A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin
  2. The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
  3. Mythago Wood, Robert Holdstock
  4. City of Saints and Madmen, Jeff VanderMeer
  5. Embassytown, China Mieville

Don’t like my choices? You know what to do! Get over there and make your voice heard.

  1. Kat Hooper says:

I approve. Mythago Wood and Lavondyss are my favorite fantasy novels.

  2. Rog the Bear says:

    Conan Series, Robert E. Howard
Dragonlance The Chronicles Trilogy, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
The Elfstones of Shannara, Terry Brooks
The Dark Elf Trilogy, R.A. Salvatore

  3. Matt Staggs says:

Rog, I would have definitely include Robert E. Howard’s Conan series on my list- I’m a huge fan – but they’re mostly short stories, right? I think one or two come close to novella length, but I didn’t feel it would qualify under the circumstances. Otherwise solid choices.

Kat, Holdstock was a rare talent. Great series!
