Comic Book Resources has posted a preview of Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja: Blue, a special one-shot issue written by none other than Peter V. Brett, author of the enormously popular Demon Series.
If you’ve read The Warded Man or The Desert Spear you know that Brett pulls no punches when it comes to action-packed fantasy. A Red Sonja and Peter V. Brett is a match made in heaven Valhalla!
Here’s what Brett had to say about the project:
“I was a huge comic book fan when I was a kid. Even before I wanted to write fantasy, I wanted to make comics. I read almost every Marvel and DC title in the 80’s and was a particular fan of Conan and his female counterpart, Red Sonja. Even then, I guess, my heart was in fantasy adventure. I mentioned this to President Nick Barrucci of Dynamite Comics at Book Expo America a couple of years ago, and he asked me to write a few issues of the book, which Dynamite had recently gotten the rights to and relaunched as their flagship title. I leaped at the chance, but didn’t want to do just any story. It needed to be special. After some thought I pitched an homage to the Red Sonja I grew up with, not the chainmail bikini-clad heroine everyone is most familiar with, but the blue-furred mercenary adventurer from the 80’s Marvel book by Louise Simonson and Mary Wilshire. It’s been an exciting project and I am thrilled with the result, especially the stellar art by Walter Geovani.”
