Touring with Terry Brooks

There are some things we can expect when it comes to Terry Brooks.

First, he writes a book a year. Second, he works hard at his website presence. And third, he loves stepping back from his writing desk to meet his fans on tour and it’s that kind of devotion that has grown him a loyal fan base over the years.

Terry does not tour alone though. His wife Judine usually accompanies him. She is perfect for the job. Judine is a former bookstore and district manager and she knows bookstores like no one else. She also loves Terry’s fans and is always thinking how to include them more in Terry’s life. This year, for the release of The Measure of the Magic, she wanted to do something really special while out on the road. She took her camera, she took her iPad, and I taught her how to upload photos and blogs from the road to the website.

The result? Touring with Terry!

While out on tour, Judine is uploading a tour blog as they travel—the places they go, the people they meet, the experiences they share. They’ve met fans who have driven 20 hours to meet Terry; they have met fans who have flown over the continent for the chance to get their books signed. They have met up with other authors for dinner. They have had breakfast with some of Terry’s fans from his forum. Touring with Terry has been an interesting look at what touring is like for a writer.
