New York Comic Con: The Sunday Pictures

Sunday at New York Comic Con is traditionally Kids Day: a day when families are encouraged to bring their youngsters to the Con en masse and, very probably, in costume. It ends up being kinda like a trial run at Halloween where candy is replaced with comic books, buttons, magnets, stickers, books, and of course, free bags.

But kids aren’t the only ones dressed up on Sunday. The New York Comic Con’s final day sees adults giving it one final go as they suit up and strike a pose on the convention floor—assuming they make it that far; one group of Ghostbusters (complete with Slimer puppet) might not have even made it that far.

Of course, there’s another side to Sunday’s during Comic Con…or rather, directly after. It’s the other side of a convention, the one that most of the convention-goers don’t get to see: the tear down.

There’s a sense of accomplishment, melancholy, relief, and a whole lot of exhaustion that goes along with this side of the Con. Almost as soon as the attendees are out of the show floor, the carpets start coming up and the booths start coming down. It doesn’t matter how often I see it happen, I’m still reminded of the old Jackson Browne song, “The Load Out”:

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
(…)
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
And that was sweet–
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
And that’s a sound they’ll never know

So what did it all look like through our lens? Check out our final set of New York Comic Con 2011 photos below. And thanks to all of you who attended and stopped by—you made every second of the Con a blast!

So what did we end up seeing? Check out the pictures below.
