Hugo Awards

We’re very proud to say that we’ve got three nominations for this year’s Hugo Awards! In the “Best Novel” category, George R.R. Martin’s A Dance With Dragons is up against Embassytown by China Miéville. Congratulations to both George and China!

In addition, we’re absolutely thrilled for our colleague, Anne Groell, who is nominated in the “Best Editor, Long Form” category! Anne’s 2011 list included books by Kelly Armstrong, Keri Arthur, George R.R. Martin, Robert Masello, Kelley Meding, Cherie Priest, Peter V. Brett, Elizabeth Bear, C.E. Murphy, Kim Stanley Robinson, Jules Watson, Jack Rogan, Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett, Paula Brandon, M.K. Hobson, Christopher Golden and Tim Lebbon, Harry Turtledove, and Connie Willis, just to name a few. Congratulations, Anne, and best of luck to you!

The Hugo Awards are given annually by the World Science Fiction Society for the best in sci-fi and fantasy from both North America and the United Kingdom. Winners of the 2012 Hugo Awards will be announced at ChiCon 7 in Chicago on September 2nd, 2012. You can find a full list of nominees here.

Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards

Del Rey Spectra and sister-imprint Villard are extremely happy to announce that G.B. Tran’s Vietnamerica has been nominated for an Eisner Award in the “Best Reality-Based Work” category! Weaving together the story of his parents departure from Vietnam during the 1970s with the narrative of his return to the country of his family, G.B. created a stunning graphic novel that is poignant, funny, and moving all at the same time.

The Eisner Awards are given each year for excellence in the comic and graphic novel industry by Comic-Con International. This year’s winners will be announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and you can find the full list of nominees here.
