According to Variety magazine, Ryan Reynolds is in talks to take the lead in a reboot of the 1986 cult science film Highlander. While things aren’t confirmed just yet, it’s looking good for Reynolds according to reports. The film is to be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the director of 28 Weeks Later and Intacto.
The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert as one of a shadowy group of immortal swordsmen destined to battle each other to the death. It was followed by several sequels, a TV series and comic books.
While Reynolds is a hot property when it comes to romantic comedies, he’s no stranger to science fiction and fantasy, either, having starred in Blade III, Wolverine and, most recently, Green Lantern. Whether the public will tolerate yet another remake from a Hollywood already beset with prequels, sequels and reimaginings is another question.
