Scientists at Illinois Argonne National Laboratory are working with a super-computer to solve one of the biggest cosmological mysteries of all time: the origin of the dark energy that is causing the universe to accelerate its expansion.

The scientists will subject small particles to simulations of the universe’s physical laws, observing the exercise over time to watch how the particles move in space. These particles will clump together into groupings that will represent galaxies. It will take about two weeks for the program to simulate the creation of the universe from Big Bang to today.
