We love our science fiction and fantasy, and we love our pets. Sometimes we combine these loves when we name our pets. I know I do. I’ve got a tabby cat named “Grendel” (He lives up to his name – he’s feisty!) and a bearded dragon named “Smaug”. (Pictured here having an infrequent and very much hated bath.) I’ve even named other animals after mythic creatures: My dog’s name is “Pixie”, and one of our dearly departed cats was named “Booka” (A phonetic spelling of ‘bwca’), a goblin of Welsh folklore.
I’ve met some of your geeky pets – a “Krypto” at San Diego Comic Con, a bearded dragon with a fantastic name that escapes me at MidSouthCon – but I know there are more out there. Why don’t you share with me the names of your geeky pets and, if you have one, link to a photo of them?

I have a white German Shepherd named Gandalf.
My dog is named RYNO after the Rip Ya a New One weapon in the Ratchet & Clank series.
I used to have a cat named \Bishop\ (after the Alien movies) and a ferret named Podo (from Beastmaster movie).
Let’s see…
Anakin the Sith Kitty, Mara the Imperial Hand Kat, and Ganner the Jedi Horse.
My cat’s name is Barriss. I always wanted one named Wedge, but I ended up with a girl, so I had to give it a little more thought. Her Dark Side name is Darth Kittious.
I have two Huskies, Vader and Leeloo Dallas
I have two cats, Kaylee and Inara, and two guinea pigs, Cobb and Badger. These are all Firefly names.
I also have a glass catfish named Elijah. This one you’ll have to guess from where for yourself.
My first cat was named Grendel, but since I was 5, we might have to blame that one on my dad. I now have a 20 year old cat named Pixel named after the Cat Who Walks Through Walls.

I have a lab/collie cross called Planck and a lab/Weimaraner cross called Newton.
A chocolate lab/Australian shepherd who was my wife’s constant faithful companion while I was deployed with the Navy. The dog’s name is Cordé, after the handmaiden who gave her life to protect Padmé in Attack of the Clones.
We named a cat Aliera for a charecter by fantasy author Steven Brust, and our Golden Doodle is Ripley. Anyone who thinks she’s named for Rpley’s believe it or not doesn’t know us very well. Her Fiull name is Warrant officer Ellen Ripley.
