New Release Interview: VISIONS by Kelley Armstrong

armstrong-visionsKelley Armstrong is back!

There is no rest for the bestselling author of the Otherworld series. She is currently in the middle of writing a brand new series, one that is quite possibly even more thrilling than her previous work. Omens started the Cainsville series and just today its sequel, Visions, hit fine bookstores.

I decided to send Kelley a few questions about her new series and what readers can expect!

But first, here is more about Visions:

As #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s new Cainsville series continues, Olivia’s power to read omens leads to the discovery of a gruesome crime with troubling connections to her new hometown.

Omens, the first installment in Kelley Armstrong’s exciting new series, introduced Olivia Taylor-Jones, daughter of notorious serial killers, and Gabriel Walsh, the self-serving, morally ambiguous lawyer who became her unlikely ally. Together, they chased down a devious killer and partially cleared her parents of their horrifying crimes.

Their success, however, is short-lived. While Olivia takes refuge in the old, secluded town of Cainsville, Gabriel’s past mistakes have come to light, creating a rift between the pair just when she needs his help the most.

Olivia finds a dead woman in her car, dressed to look like her, but the body vanishes before anyone else sees it. Olivia’s convinced it’s another omen, a sign of impending danger. But then she learns that a troubled young woman went missing just days ago—the same woman Olivia found dead in her car. Someone has gone to great lengths to kill and leave this young woman as a warning. But why? And what role has her new home played in this disturbing murder?

Olivia’s effort to uncover the truth places her in the crosshairs of old and powerful forces, forces that have their own agenda, and closely guarded secrets they don’t want revealed.

Here is my interview with Kelley Armstrong!

NEW RELEASE INTERVIEW: VISIONS BY KELLEY ARMSTRONG

Shawn Speakman: VISIONS is now in bookstores! It is your sequel to OMENS, the beginning of a new supernatural thriller series. Tell Suvudu readers about OMENS and VISIONS?

Kelley Armstrong: Omens started the story of Olivia Taylor-Jones, a privileged young woman who discovers she was adopted…and the child of convicted serial killers. She fled her life in Chicago ahead of the media frenzy and ended up in Cainsville, a small town with a lot of secrets. In Visions, Olivia is working as a server in the Cainsville diner while helping her mother’s former lawyer, Gabriel Walsh, get to the bottom of their crimes. She discovers that she hasn’t ended up in Cainsville by accident. There’s a larger plan at work, one involving her parents, and before she can solve that mystery, she needs to figure out exactly what is going on in her new town…while solving yet another related murder mystery!

Shawn Speakman: When you had the idea for OMENS, did you know you would write sequels? And how did you know?

Kelley Armstrong: I knew it wasn’t a story that could be told in one book. Omens introduced us to Olivia and Gabriel, Cainsville and the Larsens (Olivia’s parents). In it, Olivia sets out to solve one mystery, and she does, but it’s only part of the much larger story, and that required more books.

Shawn Speakman: Olivia Taylor-Jones has a terrible power that allows her to witness real omens. How did you arrive at her character? Did you do any research into those people who have said they have the power in our world?

Kelley Armstrong: In my research, I didn’t come across anyone who claimed to have to have that particular power. It’s not the second sight or mediumship or any of the usual methods of foretelling the future. Liv’s power is that she can recognize omens and can sometimes see them when no one else does (a vision of sorts) There may be people who can do that, but I didn’t find it as a recognized form of prognostication. So the short version then is “I made it up.” My research was on omens and superstitions, as well as Celtic and Welsh folklore. In the Otherworld, I did werewolves, witches, demons and other common supernatural lore—with Cainsville I wanted something different.

Shawn Speakman: You recently finished your bestselling Otherworld series. Now that you’ve had some time away from it, do you miss it at all?

Kelley Armstrong: I still write short fiction in it. I have three anthologies of Otherworld work coming (the first in October: Otherworld Nights) comprised of existing and new stories. I also continue to write an Otherworld novella a year for Subterranean Press. I’m enjoying the new series too much to wish I was doing more in that one! It’s fun to keep my toe in those waters, but it was really time to move on.

Shawn Speakman: Will there be a book after VISIONS? If so, when?

Kelley Armstrong: Book 3 is Deceptions, and will come out next summer. It’s in edits now, and I’ve started writing book 4.

Visions by Kelley Armstrong is in fine bookstores now!

Omens are everywhere…
