When I was writing Children of Paranoia and people would ask me what it was about, I often lead by telling them about the world in which the story took place, a world in which a secret war between two mysterious enemies has been raging in the shadows of everyday society for centuries, a world where those born into the war are taught to hate the people on the other side even though they have no way of knowing who is actually on the other side unless someone else tells them. Inevitably, after that short description, the person I was talking to would look up at me and ask, “So it’s science fiction?” My response was always the same, “Kind of, except without the science.”

There's no such thing as "overdue" for a random event. Probability math doesn't work that way....
