He-Man, Voltron, and More with Sideshow Collectibles’ Mike Tolentino

One of the biggest criticisms of San Diego Comic Con is that it’s not about the fans anymore; that it’s all movies and television. I don’t agree. While I’ve seen my share of TV and movie production companies at the Con, there are plenty of attendees who are here for comic books, collectibles, and other [...]

Here’s My Favorite Geeky Collectible: What’s Yours?

You see this? It’s one of the original ALIEN action figures released by toy manufacturer Kenner in 1979. It’s something else, too: It’s my PRECIOUSSSS.
These things are very hard to come by, because they were only available for sale for an extremely short time. As it turns out, kids didn’t want a  13-inch, chrome-fanged, [...]

Check Out This Fan’s Unbelievable ‘Star Wars’ Collectible Photos!

IMG_9014Way back in the ancient days when sabertooth jam boxes roamed the earth and the mighty Cave VCRs demanded sacrifices of VHS tapes from primitive suburban cave men, I wanted a video camera more than anything else on earth. I begged and begged for one, and God love ‘em, one Christmas my parents jacked up the Sears credit card to the limit and bought one. It was unbelievably huge, and entirely primitive. I wasn’t allowed to take it outside, so I contented myself with what projects I could muster within our wood paneled and shag-carpeted den. Naturally, I filmed my Star Wars figures.

Meet the Universal Monster Nine Inch Scale Creature from the Black Lagoon

creaturehiAction figures are addictive, I’ve learned.I’ve been buying a lot of toys collectibles lately. It all started with the “Breaking Bad” Walter White action figure I bought on impulse while my wife was shoe-shopping several weeks ago. From there, it was just a hop, skip and a jump to purchasing all of the first wave of the “Star Wars” Black Series Six Inch Action Figures. I mean, my love for “Star Wars” predates my “Breaking Bad” fixation by several decades, and if I’ve got love enough for Walter White to purchase his likeness then it’s a slap in the face not to pay homage to Luke, R2-D2 and company in a similar fashion. And tell me that they don’t look freaking awesome hiding out on the shelf above the fireplace.

Review: Star Wars Black Series Six-Inch Figures

star-wars-6-inch-hasbro-black-series-wave-1-sandtrooper-368-pI went on a little bit of an action figure spree this weekend and bought (among other things) two of the new Star Wars “Black” series action figures. They’ve got two lines, one 3.75″ and the other 6″. I went for the big guys, specifically the Sandtrooper and R2-D2, both part of the first wave of figures.I was momentarily possessed with the impulse that I should keep these guys in their boxes, but what fun is that? After deciding that I’d probably never sell them anyway, I broke my new buddies out of their cardboard and plastic prisons.
